General Notes: Biography Dr. Roger G. Grimball, Sr, 64, died Sunday, January 10, 2010, in a local hospital. Dr. Grimball was born in Bunkie, Louisiana and was a lifelong resident of Sulphur. He was a graduate of Sulphur High School, McNeese State University, and Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He was a family practice physician in partnership with Dr. Allen Richert for 38 years at the Grimball and Richert Clinic in Sulphur. Dr. Grimball loved his work, never wanting to retire. What he most loved about his job was the personal interaction with his patients. Above all things, Dr. Grimball loved his family. His wife was his best friend and his children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He had many hobbies which included hunting, fishing, and golfing. He was a collector of antique fishing lures and Native American artifacts. He was an accomplished accordion player and his band, "The Cajun Cousins" played many local venues over the past 40 years. He was an Eagle Scout and served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a member of the Calcasieu Parish Medical Society, Louisiana Academy of Family Practice, the American Academy of Family Practice, the West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital Finance Committee, Trout Unlimited, the National Fishing Lure Collectors Club, and was a lifetime member of the Coastal Conservation Association. Survivors include his wife, Debbie Grimball of Sulphur; one daughter, Kimberly Ann Grimball Trahan and husband, Don of Sulphur; three sons, Dr. Roger Glen Grimball, Jr. and wife, Dr. Jenny Grimball of Sulphur, Joseph Wesley Grimball of Mississippi, and Phillip Remy Grimball and fiancee' Candice Winn of Westlake; three brothers, Terrance Grimball and wife, Mary of Sulphur, Wayne Grimball and wife, Frances of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and John W. Grimball, III and wife, Lorise of Austin, Texas; his sister and brother-in-law, Penny Taylor and husband, Ken of Sugar Land, Texas; seven grandchildren, Don Trahan, Jr, Zachary Trahan, Bridget Trahan, Jasper Grimball, Camille Grimball, Brayden Winn, and Drew Winn; numerous nieces and nephews; and his longtime friend and business partner, Dr. Allen Richert, his wife, Dale, and their family. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley Grimball, Jr. and Iris Walker Grimball. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. The Revs. Joe Gosselin and Skip Negley will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday with a rosary service at 6 p.m., and from 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
