Trouts and Salmons
Endangered Status
The Paiute Cutthroat Trout, a subspecies of the Cutthroat Trout, is on the U.S. Endangered Species List. It is classified as threatened in California. The decline of this subspecies can be attributed to changes in habitat caused by water-management practices, mining, and logging; overfishing; and the introduction of non-native fishes which prey upon, compete with, and hybridize with the natives.
