I wonder where the time has gone
Since you and I were two alone
The time when we would climb up high
In a tall pine toward the sky.
We roamed the woods completely free
Two brothers together, you and me
We waded the gully not so deep
And caught a frog that lay asleep.
We cut some poles and made our jumps
Like flying vaults over the stumps
We ran around until the night
When Dad would call from out of sight.
He blew his horn to show our way.
We had to leave without delay.
We ran together through the wood
To hurry home and get some food.
This is an unfinished note.
That defines a time so remote.
That developed and prepared
The brotherhood that we shared.
I began writing this years ago as an ode to my brothers. I am sorry that I did not take the time to finish this ode before Van died in 2003. We all enjoyed some good times.
Mike and I will have a hollow place in our heart, Brother.
You will be missed.
